Recording artist Allan Scott here! I want to tell you about someone and something that changed my life forever: Jesus and His FREE gift of Righteousness.  WAIT! Don’t click away from this page! I can promise you that I have sat through a gazillion dead church services that didn’t have an ounce of power to do anything in anyone’s life. This isn’t THAT! What I am about to tell you could change you forever. After all, it changed me!

I’ve been a lot of things in my life. By the time I was 21 I had been a drug abuser, homosexual, cheater, liar, thief, std carrier, high-school drop-out, college drop-out and an inmate. I was pretty banged up when I came into the four walls of the church. I knew I had wronged God. My own conscience had pointed out my wrong doing many times. I stood before God as a guilty man.

Romans 3:23: Everyone has sinned and is far away from God's saving presence.

Justice required a punishment for all the wrong I had done. A sentence had to be carried out...

2 Cor. 5:10: For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

Yet His love for me compelled Him to provide a way of escape and so much more!

Romans 5:8: God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

This is where God intervened in the most powerful, intimate way possible. God sent His Son, Jesus, to earth where he lived with us. Jesus was completely God and completely man at the same time. He lived a perfect life. Never falling short in any area, He was completely deserving of everything good. Then God did something amazing. This perfect God-man Jesus became the object of God’s righteous anger and justice in my place. Jesus willingly died on a cross, the most humiliating and painful form of Roman execution saved for the worst of criminals. He was beaten, mutilated beyond recognition, stripped naked and crucified.  In Isaiah it says that God was pleased to CRUSH His Son on the cross. Matthew 27:46 states that God actually DISOWNED Jesus. God turned His face from Christ and broke fellowship with Him. Jesus cried, “my Father, my Father, why have you forsaken me?!” On the cross, Jesus took credit for every evil, sinful act I would ever commit. Why? So that God would never disown me! Instead I received credit for every good thing Jesus deserved. The second I believed this truth, I received right standing with God as a FREE gift!

After becoming a Christian I began to hear many preachers state that if I didn’t live a perfect life, confess every sin or put enough in the offering plate, God was going to turn His back on me. I began to feel a shame I never had felt in the darkest hours of my old life! My walk with God seemed like a roller coaster, up or down depending on how well I was living for Him. I became really exhausted with the whole thing. Does my story sound similar to yours?  Good! I was at the end of my “Christian rope” when God began to show me a couple of things I had never seen before:

Romans 4:4a-5b If you're a hard worker and do a good job, you deserve your pay…But if you see that the job is too big for you, that it's something only God can do, and you trust him to do it—you could never do it for yourself no matter how hard and long you worked—well, that trusting-him-to-do-it is what gets you set right with God, by God….Sheer gift.

The scripture clearly stated that it was not about my trying to be a better person, giving or doing more but receiving a FREE gift! And then...

Romans 5:17b …those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness (right-standing with God) will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.

It said that this GIFT of RIGHTEOUSNESS would cause me to reign in life! What is reigning in life? It is when God loves you and blesses your socks off because you have a perfect scorecard in His eyes!

I read on:

Hebrews 10:10&14 …And by that (God’s) will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ ONCE FOR ALL 14a…For by one offering He has perfected FOR ALL TIME those who are sanctified (set apart).

It said that I HAD (past tense) been made holy once for all? Yes! Was it because of my giving? NO! Through the perfect sacrifice of Jesus I had been cleansed, made holy (set apart as His) and HE WASN’T GOING TO TAKE IT BACK! Have you received God’s gift of righteousness? It doesn’t matter if you’re a doped out drug addict or a burned out Sunday school teacher, this gift is for you! It’s not about being a better person. It’s about trusting a better person. It’s not about trying harder; it’s about believing that Jesus completely took your shame and guilt away. He gave you the gift of his absolute perfect standing with God! Will you ask God to give you this free gift today? It will cause you to REIGN!
